Adventure Therapy

“Adventure Therapy is the prescriptive use of adventure experiences provided by mental health professionals, often conducted in natural settings that kinesthetically engage clients on cognitive, affective, and behavioral levels" (Gass, Gillis, and Russell, 2012).

Adventure Therapy can be scheduled for individuals, couples, groups, or families. It can be arranged for a 2 hour session, a day session, or part of an Intensive Outpatient Treatment Plan or Day Treatment Plan.

Each session includes an adventure such as; skiing, snowshoeing, alpine skiing, ice skating, hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, mountain biking, rock climbing, bird watching, forest bathing, mindfulness in nature, etc.

Each session includes a 50 minute therapy session individualized to the need of the client, mindfulness, and an adventure.

Adventure therapy can have many benefits, from interpersonal to clinical. It is often focused on changing negative self-perception and encouraging communication and interaction with others.
